Site description (2003 baseline)
There is one village in the northwest part of Pulau Baun (Baun Island). Most of the people work as fisherman, and in more forested area in the south people collect medicinal plants and hunting. Main comodities of this area are coconut, coffee, cacao, clove and nutmeg.

Key biodiversity
Survey to this area is very limited. Probably bird species in this area are mixed between Moluccas avifauna and Papua. Important species such as Palm Cockatoo Probosciger atterimus and Sulphur-crested Cockatoo Cacatua galerita live in this area.

Non-bird biodiversity: Thylogale brunii, Cervus timorensis moluccensis, Phalanger orientalis mimicus, Phalanger gymnotis (Monk et.al.1997, Hitipeuw & Tuhumury 1999 obs.pri.).
