Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A reservoir on the River Guadiana surrounded by
Quercus woodland, sclerophyllous scrub and
Pinus plantations. In the mountainous part of the site there are dehesas and areas of pasture. The main human activities are livestock-farming, hunting and forestry.
This is an important site for breeding raptors and wintering
Grus grus.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Threats include inadequate forest management, disturbance to breeding
Ciconia nigra from anglers and boats, new powerlines and new road building.
