Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A high plateau with extensive cereal cultivation and areas of matweed
Stipa tenacissima and sclerophyllous scrub. There are some small
Quercus and
Pinus woodlands. The main human activities are arable cultivation and livestock-farming.
This is an important area for steppe birds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Tetrax tetrax (resident).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The most important threat is agricultural intensification, particularly the use of plastic covered crops in the foraging areas of
Falco naumanni, and also overgrazing.
