Psara and Antipsara islands and surrounding islets


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A group of islands covered with maquis and phrygana and few trees. The main activities include fishing and stock-raising and some tourism.



Key biodiversity
The site is important for breeding seabirds, and breeding and passage raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Falco naumanni (passage).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from intensive illegal hunting. Overfishing, disturbance and introduced cats and rats are also problems.



Protected areas
National Partial International None1,230 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Xirokampos-Ftelia/Psaron, 1,230 ha).
