Polesie Reserve This is an IBA in Danger!

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2005 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Black Stork Ciconia nigra LC breeding (2000) 30–50 pairs B2
Short-toed Snake-eagle Circaetus gallicus LC breeding (2000) 10–15 pairs B2
Lesser Spotted Eagle Clanga pomarina LC breeding (2004) 30 pairs B2
Greater Spotted Eagle Clanga clanga VU breeding (2000) 3–5 pairs A1
Montagu's Harrier Circus pygargus LC breeding (2000) 40–60 pairs B3
White-tailed Sea-eagle Haliaeetus albicilla LC breeding (2000) 8–10 pairs A1

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2005. The most recent assessment (2017) is shown below.
