Site description (2005 baseline)
This area consists of three carp fishpond complexes (Koncanica, Garesnica and Poljana) with well developed emergent and floating vegetation, surrounded by pedunculate oak forest, wet meadows and mosaic landscape. The fishponds are an important breeding area for waterbirds, while White Stork breeds in the surrounding area. Main threats are possible loss of carp fishponds due to abandonment of fish production, agricultural intensification, intensified forest management and excessive or illegal hunting.
