Plitvice Lakes National Park

Site description (2005 baseline):

Site location and context
A mountainous area with well-preserved fir-beech forests, especially the Corkova uvala primeval forest. Meadows and pastures are numerous in the southern part of the area (Homoljacko polje, Vrhovinsko polje, Brezovac and Babin potok). This is an important nesting area for Ural Owl, Tengmalm’s Owl, Three-toed Woodpecker and White-backed Woodpecker. The main threats are intensified forest management, changes in traditional farming and unregulated recreational activities and tourism.
