Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A mountain area in southern Italy, north-east of the town of Salerno. There are extensive broadleaved woodlands (especially beech
Fagus), as well as streams, rivers, grasslands, cultivated areas, and rocky areas of karst. The main land-uses are forestry, cultivation and stock-farming. This IBA includes `Monte Terminio and Monte Polveracchio', which was listed as a separate IBA (former site IT087) in the previous pan-European IBA inventory (Grimmett and Jones 1989).
The site is notable for breeding birds of prey and woodpeckers.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The site is threatened especially by deforestation and by the building of new roads. Restocking of
Alectoris graeca occurs.
