Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A brackish lagoon with associated aquatic vegetation, and woodlands, vineyards and other cultivation.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for waterbirds. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Aythya nyroca (2-10 passage individuals, 1-10 passage individuals); Tetrax tetrax (5 breeding pairs).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats include the development of rice farming, water pollution from chemical treatment against mosquitoes (`Other' threats, above) and high hunting pressure.



Protected areas
National Low International PartialPart of IBA covered by Private Reserve. 16,000 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (La Petite Camargue, 37,000 ha).
