Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
The IBA, north of Cottbus, comprises 39 seasonal fish-ponds (depth 0.8-1.2 m). The ponds are fed by the River Spree.
The site holds 20,000 or waterbirds on passage, on a regular basis. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Crex crex (7-8 breeding pairs).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Phalacrocorax carbo are shot.
National Partial
International HighIBA overlaps with Nature Reserve. IBA overlaps with Ramsar Site and Special Protection Area.
