Site location and context
Located around 50 km south-east of Pekalongan, Pegunungan Dieng (Dieng Mountains) consists of several dormant volcano peaks. Most of the peaks on the western part have elevation less than 2000 m, suc as Gunung Langit (1628 m) and Gunung Besar (1579 m). There are three small lakes in this area, Telaga Warna (40 ha), Telaga Dringo (26 ha) and Telaga Sumurup (20 ha) (Nijman and van Balen 1998).The elevation of most of top mountain at west part area is least than 2000 m such as Gunung Langit (1628 m) and Gunung Besar (1579 m). The mountain at the eastern area higher than the western area. There is 3 lakes in this area, Telaga Warna (40 ha), Telaga Dringo (26 ha) and Telaga Sumurup (20 ha) (Nijman & van Balen 1998).



Key biodiversity
Known as raptors migratory route (Nijman obs.pri., Nijman & Sozer 1995, Nijman & van Balen 1998).

Non-bird biodiversity: Panthera pardus, Sus verrucosus, Hylobates moloch, Presbytis comata, Trachypithecus auratus (Whitten et.al.1996).



Habitat and land use
Lowland rainforest, upper mountain rainforest and lower mountain rainforest.



Protected areas
Proposed as a national park. Areas above 1000 m are protected forest for water catchment area (Whitten et.al.1996)
