Site summary
This extensive wetland is located in the geographical unit of Hronská pahorkatina and is almost entirely covered with reed beds. Surrounding habitats include wet meadows of shrub and tree vegetation, fields, orchards and sand quarries. The area is used for water management and hunting purposes. Selective reed harvesting is practiced. One third of the area is strictly protected. It is an important nesting site for wetland species, and is the only nesting site of the Moustached Warbler in Slovakia. The main threats to birds are the gradual degradation of wetlands, the decrease of water quality and reed cutting. The site is proposed as an SPA.
