Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
Shallow fjords with small islets, saltmarshes and cultivated land including large reclaimed areas near Overgaard. Marine areas surrounding this IBA (and previously included within it, following Grimmett and Jones 1989) are now included in Northern Kattegat (site 119).
The site is of high importance for wintering
Cygnus cygnus. Many bird populations are shared with Northern Kattegat (IBA 119).
Recurvirostra avosetta,
Sterna hirundo and
S. paradisaea, all listed on Annex I of the EC Birds Directive, breed at the site.
