Parndorfer Platte and Heideboden


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
The area is a large, flat, shingle terrace with a thin loess deposit, situated to the north-east of Lake Neusiedl. It is predominantly agricultural with some forestry plantations, interspersed with numerous gravel-pits. Remnants of extensively grazed pastures and the original oak Quercus forests exist.



Key biodiversity
An important site for birds associated with arable agriculture. It is one of five areas in Austria for Otis tarda.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Hunting is permitted across the entire area. The creation of set-aside is being promoted in areas used by Otis tarda.



Protected areas
National Low International None70 ha of IBA covered by Nature Reserve (Zurndorfer Eichenwald, 70 ha).
