Site description (2000 baseline)
The area is a large, flat, shingle terrace with a thin loess deposit, situated to the north-east of Lake Neusiedl. It is predominantly agricultural with some forestry plantations, interspersed with numerous gravel-pits. Remnants of extensively grazed pastures and the original oak Quercus forests exist.

Key biodiversity
An important site for birds associated with arable agriculture. It is one of five areas in Austria for Otis tarda.
