IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2012 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('key species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Demoiselle Crane Anthropoides virgo LC passage (2005–2011) 200–400 individuals B1i, C3
Common Crane Grus grus LC passage (2005–2011) 100–2,000 individuals B1i, C2
European Roller Coracias garrulus LC breeding (2005–2011) 10–40 breeding pairs A1, C1
Red-footed Falcon Falco vespertinus VU passage (2005–2011) 50–450 individuals A1, C1
Cyprus Warbler Curruca melanothorax LC breeding (2005–2011) 1,000–2,000 breeding pairs B3
Cyprus Wheatear Oenanthe cypriaca LC breeding (2005–2011) 300–500 breeding pairs B3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2012. The most recent assessment (2013) is shown below.
