Site location and context
Complex site on the Baltic coast, comprising two large wetlands, both formerly separate IBAs: the shallow coastal lagoon lake Pape and the Nida raised bog (IBA boundary transformations shown in Fig. 5-1). Surrounding forests and meadows, disperse human settlements as well as a 25 km stretch of the sea shore are included. Lake Pape was included in the first European IBA inventory [4], and along with Nida bog IBA was listed in the subsequent international and national site lists [5, 6, 1]. Fully protected: there is a 99.9% overlap with Pape nature park, a candidate SPA.
