Padiş - Vlădeasa mountain


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
The site is situated in the northern part of the Apuseni mountains. Forest predominates, with deciduous forest composed mainly of Quercus and Carpinus, mixed forest of Fagus and Abies, and coniferous forest of Abies and Juniperus. Grasslands and small agricultural fields are also present, and a large reservoir is situated on the western boundary. The area is well populated and is a popular tourist destination.



Key biodiversity
This site is important for species of montane Abies and Fagus forest, and as a staging site for migrants crossing the Carpathians. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Crex crex (5-8 breeding pairs).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from deforestation and pressure from tourism˜there are many access roads and marked trails.
