Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A system of fish-ponds and adjacent marshes in the valley of the River Koppány, 10 km to the south-east of the town of Tamási. The fish-ponds are overgrown with beds of
Phragmites and
Typha, whilst the adjacent marshlands are dominated by sedge
Carex. Human activities include cattle-grazing and reed-harvesting (`Other' land-use, below).
An important breeding site for herons (Ardeidae) and other waterbirds, and a feeding area for raptors. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria:
Haliaeetus albicilla,
Crex crex (no data).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Wildfowl hunting and associated disturbance to birds on the fish-ponds have resulted in the colony of
Egretta alba moving elsewhere. A management plan exists for the site.

International High487 ha of IBA covered by Nature Conservation Area (Pacsmagi-tavak, 487 ha). 485 ha of IBA covered by Ramsar Site (Pacsmag fish-ponds, 485 ha).
