Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within the New Caledonia (to France) Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and the Pacific, Western FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 54500 km2 and is 188 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 1220 to 3693 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.94 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 22.66 and 24.05 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.09 and 0.12 mg/m3.
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 1286-2143 individuals of Gould's Petrel (VU) from New Caledonia are present at the site during the Breeding (Dec-May) life-history stage.
