Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using tracking data. It falls within High Seas International Waters and the Pacific, Southeast FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 44431 km2 and is 352 km away from the closet coastline. The depth ranges from 2714 to 4184 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 1.63 m/s, mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 21.25 and 22.64 °C and mean annual chlorophyll-a concentrations found to range between 0.29 and 0.67 mg/m3.
1 species triggers IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. BirdLife analyses of tracking data estimates that 3366-4987 individuals of Waved Albatross (CR) from Isla Espanola are present at the site during the Incubation (Apr-Aug) life-history stage.
