Site description (2004 baseline)
Predominantly a forest and wetland complex on the Baltic Sea Irbe strait coast, encompassing shore and dune habitats as well as the natural system of parallel ancient forested dunes interspersed with narrow strips of fens or mires. Part of the IBA was first listed in 1994 [1], now also qualifies under the IBA C criteria. Almost fully protected: there is a 98.6% overlap with Ovisi restricted nature reserve, a candidate SPA.
