Ordos Taolimiao - Alashanwan Haizi


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located where the Mau Us Desert of the Ordos plateau meets the Hobq Desert. The IBA is in a transitional area between typical grassland and desertified grassland, but since 2004 the area has become much drier and it has been reported that the Larus relictus population has declined drastically.

Non-bird biodiversity: No information.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve in 1998, subsequently upgraded to Ordos National Nature Reserve. It was designated in 2002 (under the name ‘Eerduosi National Nature Reserve’) as a ‘Wetland of International Importance’ (or Ramsar site) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
