Omulew and Plodownica Rivers Valleys

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2010 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
European Nightjar Caprimulgus europaeus LC breeding (2008) 100 pairs C6
Corncrake Crex crex LC breeding (2008) 196–215 males C1
Eurasian Curlew Numenius arquata NT breeding (2008) 46–56 pairs C1
Black-tailed Godwit Limosa limosa NT breeding (2008) 26 pairs C1
European Roller Coracias garrulus LC breeding (2008) 5–6 pairs C6

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2010. The most recent assessment (2010) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2010 good very high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no population medium

State (condition of the trigger species' populations)
Species Actual vs Reference (units) % remaining Result
European Roller Coracias garrulus 5 / 5 (pairs) 100 good

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Invasive and other problematic species and genes happening now whole of population/area (>90%) moderate decline (10–30% over 3 generations) very high
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Natural system modifications happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation No management plan exists, but the management planning process has begun Very little or no conservation action taking place low
