Site description (2007 baseline):
Site location and context
The forest is complex and includes sometimes trees tallest than 60 metres high rising from a dispersed undergrowth. Species like Haumania libretiana and Aframomum sp are dominant in the herbaceous level.
Large areas along rivers are covered by a flooded forest where species like Hallea ciliata, Pterocarpus osun and Alstonia congonsis are dominant.
The site of Ogooué is covered by two main habitats: a forest/savanna mosaic and forest gallery along the course way of the rivers.
The area is still a natural area with small scale use by the population for bush meat and agriculture
The site is under a process of being gazetted as a Protected Area.
