Närpiö-Korsnäs sea banks


Site description (2024 baseline):

Site location and context
Located on the western coast of Finland, consisting of shallow sea banks just outside the archipelago of the Bothnian Bay.

Key biodiversity
A key staging area for migrating ducks, particularly Common and Velvet Scoter in spring migration.

Habitat and land use
The area consists of shallow open sea. The area is mostly used for fishing activities, however, there are plans for offshore wind farms.

Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
There are plans for offshore wind farms that pose a several threat for this site. Also disturbance caused by fishing, hunting and other recreational activities is a regular threat.
