Nuratau Range

IBA Justification

The site was identified as important in 2006 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List1 Season Year(s) Size IBA criteria
Egyptian Vulture Neophron percnopterus EN breeding 2003-2004 5-10 breeding pairs A1
Cinereous Vulture Aegypius monachus NT breeding 2006 90 individuals A1, A4ii
Saker Falcon Falco cherrug EN breeding 2004 2 adults A1
Eastern Rock Nuthatch Sitta tephronota LC resident 2006 abundant A3
White-throated Robin Irania gutturalis LC breeding 2006 common A3
Variable Wheatear Oenanthe picata LC breeding 2006 uncommon A3
White-capped Bunting Emberiza stewarti LC breeding 2006 uncommon A3

1. The current IUCN Red List category. The category at the time of the IBA criteria assessment (2006) may differ.

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2006. The most recent assessment (2006) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2006 not assessed high low
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
yes unset good

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Biological resource use happening now majority/most of area/population (50-90%) slow but significant deterioration high
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now some of area/population (10-49%) slow but significant deterioration medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Protected areas Management plan Other action Result
Most of site (50-90%) covered (including the most critical parts for important bird species) No management plan exists but the management planning process has begun Substantive conservation measures are being implemented but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity low
