Site description (2009 baseline):

Located in Urad Houqi, Bayannur League, in the Alxa-Gobi desert.

Non-bird biodiversity: Haloxylon ammodendron is distributed along the river bank and in the sandy area. Nationally protected animals include Equus hemionus, Capra ibex, Felis lynx and Gazella subgutturosa.

Established as a nature reserve in 1985, and expanded and upgraded to become Urad Saxaul Forest-Asian Wild Ass Nature Reserve (68,000 ha) in 2001.
