Site description (2002 baseline)
This IBA lies in an undulating landscape with gradual slopes and separate hills. Primary fir-beech forests were turned into spruce monoculture in most places in the second half of the 18th century. Due to extremely bad air pollution in the 1970's and 1980's, large areas of forest died away or were fragmented. A mosaic of stands of various age, open fields and peatbogs replaced the bare areas.
