Site description (2024 baseline):
Site location and context
Located in the extreme north of Finland, mostly within the tundra zone.
One of the most important breeding areas in Finland for many arctic waders, such as Dunlin and Bar-tailed Godwit. Also important for arctic passerines, such as Lapland Bunting and Bluethroat.
Mostly treeless tundra / alpine habitat with scattered peatlands and ponds. Very little human activity, but used for reindeer herding.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Climate change is likely to alter the habitat in the future and make it partly unsuitable for the arctic breeders. Over-grazing by reindeers affects the habitat quality right now.
