Site location and context
This Marine IBA is identified using seaward extensions around breeding colonies. It originates from the Japan Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and falls within the Pacific, Northwest FAO ocean region. The site covers an area of 51530 km2 and borders the coastline. The depth ranges from 0 to 1075 m, with a mean annual wind speed of 2.02 m/s and mean annual sea surface temperature falls between 7.61 and 12.56 °C.
5 species trigger IBA criteria at this Marine IBA. Seaward extensions around breeding colonies; Aniva bay, Teurito island include key near-colony areas for breeding populations of Rhinoceros Auklet (LC) , Slaty-backed Gull (LC) , Black-legged Kittiwake (LC) , Little Tern (LC) and Black-tailed Gull (LC) 0-50000 individuals.
