Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
The site includes part of the north-eastern coastline of Crete and the island of Elasa. The area is dominated by phrygana and maquis scrub with some olive-groves and vineyards.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for species associated with coastal cliffs and scrub and for passage migrants.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from agricultural intensification and hunting. The area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Low International Low20 ha of IBA covered by Aesthetic Forest (Vai, 20 ha). 19 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Aisthitiko Dasos Vai, 19 ha).
