Site location and context
Part of mainland coastal area and Islands with a mix of meadow and pasture, where farming is very marginal in places, so threats to corncrake survival from mowing reduced. Other areas more intensively farmed. Numbers have the potential to expand with appropriate habitat management.
The site approches international importance (mean of 16 calling males) of Crex crex, Corncrake, a globally threatened species.
Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
There has been sporadic habitat management to create more early cover and cut abandoned meadows in some years.
