IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2000 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Whooper Swan Cygnus cygnus LC non-breeding (1983) 1,000 birds A4i, B1i, C2
Tundra Swan Cygnus columbianus LC non-breeding (1989) 320 birds A4i, B1i, B2, C2
Pink-footed Goose Anser brachyrhynchus LC non-breeding (1983) 3,750 birds A4i, B1i, C3
Common Shelduck Tadorna tadorna LC non-breeding (-) 4,445 birds A4i, B1i, C3
Common Teal Anas crecca LC non-breeding (1989) 4,000 birds B1i, C3

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2000. The most recent assessment (2010) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
