Site description (2003 baseline)
Nangga Rawa village located on the beach. Gunung Poco Ndeki is the highest mountain in this area (separated from the forest block in Nangga Rawa), isolated from the main mountains area in central Flores (Gibbs 1990).
Key biodiversity
In the 1998 a survey hold by BirdLife International-Indonesia Programme (Trainor & Lesmana 2000) to assess the population of Yellow-crested Cockatoo Cacatua sulphurea. There was no Cacatua sulphurea found by the survey team. Interview with the local people indicated that the Cacatua sulphurea is difficult to find. There was similar result from other survey one year before by Cambridge Flores/Sumbawa Conservation Project in 1993. This survey also shown that only few record for Flores Crow Corvus florensis in this area,and the species can only be seen in the forest along river (Butchart et.al.1996). Around 100 birds recorded in this area.
