Nagpag Co (Napa Hai) Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the Zhongden area of north-western Yunnan. The IBA is a high-altitude marsh, surrounded by high mountains (3,800-4,449 m) in the east, west and north. The lake extends 10 km from north to south and 2.3 km from east to west, and there is 500 ha of open water even in the dry season. There are also shallow water marshes and meadows, which are the main habitats for wintering Grus nigricollis.

Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provincial-level nature reserve (2,400 ha) in 1984. Napa Hai was designated in 2004 as a ‘Wetland of International Importance’ (or Ramsar site) under the Ramsar Convention on Wetlands.
