Site description (2017 baseline):

Site location and context
The site lies in Dubai, in Alkhawaneej area.

Key biodiversity
A total of 102 bird species are recorded. During winters Crested Honey Buzzard, Greater Spotted Eagle, Shikra, and Western Marsh Harrier use the area.

Habitat and land use
Ghaf forest (Prosopis cinerea), originally natural but now also irrigated, amid sand-dunes. A minority of the area is used for recreation purposes while the rest (60%) is off-limits to the public.

Protected areas
The area is a proposed Protected Area (2016).


Land ownership
The land is managed by the Public Park and Horticulture Department of Dubai Municipality.
