Site summary
Muránska planina is an area of limestone plateau with a number of karst formations. Predominantly forested, it includes a wide range of vegetation communities. In the central and highest part of Stolické vrchy; unique plant communities on silicate soil can be found. This area is used mainly for forestry and hunting activities. Land use in Muránska planina includes tourism and recreation, and is used less for sheep, horse and cattle grazing. The site is important for the nesting of forest, rock and mountain mea­dows habitats species, especially the Capercaillie and Tengmalm’s Owl. Intensive forestry is the main threat to this area. The site is proposed as an SPA.
