Site description (2000 baseline):
Site location and context
A small group of offshore islands in north-east åland. Most of the islands are bare and rocky, but some of the biggest are sparsely forested. On the eastern side of Mulklobb, most of the auks breed between mounds of rocks. Auks and gulls benefit from the site's proximity to productive marine areas. The area is quite peaceful due to its situation away from ship and boat channels.
An important breeding area for auks (
Alca torda and
Cepphus grylle).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The major threat to birds is oil spills from ships and wrecks (`Other' threat). Also, the extension of fish-farming to the outer archipelago may cause harm to birds in the future.
