Site location and context
Located around 10 km north-west of Indramayu. The area is the important site for waders.
Heavily disturbed mangrove and freshwater swamp. There are ponds (tambak), drainage canals with high sedimentation rates. Nevertheless this constitutes one of the largest remaining example of the swampy habitats that once characterised the northern coast of Java (MacKinnon
et.al.1982, Sukardjo 1987).
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Clearence of mangrove for ponds and fisheries, settlement and agriculture, animal catching mainly birds in the area (Sukardjo 1987)
Proposed as Nature Reserve (MacKinnon
et.al.1982)
