Mounts Irid-Angilo and Binuang This is an IBA in Danger!

IBA Justification

The site was identified as internationally important for bird conservation in 2006 because it was regularly supporting significant populations of the species listed below, meeting ('triggering') IBA criteria.

Populations meeting IBA criteria ('trigger species') at the site:
Species Red List Season (year/s of estimate) Size IBA criteria
Spotted Imperial-pigeon Ducula carola VU resident (2000) present A1
Flame-breasted Fruit-dove Ramphiculus marchei VU resident (2000) present A1, A2
Philippine Eagle-owl Bubo philippensis VU resident (2000) present A1
Philippine Eagle Pithecophaga jefferyi CR resident (1900–1919) present A1
North Philippine Dwarf-kingfisher Ceyx melanurus LC resident (2000) present A1

Whiskered Pitta Erythropitta kochi LC resident (2000) present A1, A2
Celestial Monarch Hypothymis coelestis VU resident (2000) present A1, A2
Ashy Thrush Geokichla cinerea VU resident (2000) present A1, A2
Ashy-breasted Flycatcher Muscicapa randi VU resident (2000) present A1, A2
Green-faced Parrotfinch Erythrura viridifacies VU resident (2000) present A1, A2

IBA Conservation

Ideally the conservation status of the IBA will have been checked regularly since the site was first identified in 2006. The most recent assessment (2018) is shown below.

IBA conservation assessment
Year of assessment State Pressure Response
2018 very poor very high medium
Whole site assessed? State assessed by Accuracy of information
no habitat medium

State (condition of the trigger species' habitats)
Habitat Quantity (% remaining) Quality (% carrying capacity) Result
Forest - moderate (70–90%) very poor

Pressure (threats to the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Threat Timing Scope Severity Result
Agricultural expansion and intensification happening now most of population/area (50–90%) rapid decline (>30% over 3 generations) very high
Energy production and mining happening now most of population/area (50–90%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) high
Biological resource use happening now some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium
Transportation and service corridors likely in long term (>4 years) some of population/area (10–49%) slow decline (1–10% over 3 generations) medium

Response (conservation actions taken for the trigger species and/or their habitats)
Designation Planning Action Result
Whole area (>90%) covered by appropriate conservation designation A management plan exists, but it is out of date or not comprehensive Substantive conservation measures are being implemented, but these are not comprehensive and are limited by resources and capacity medium
