Site location and context
The Yatsugatake mountain ranges in Nagano Prefecture, extending over about 50 km from north to south, and about 30 km from east to west forms a mountainous highland zone. Akadake (2,899 m) of the south Yatsugatake of Yamanashi Prefecture side is their main peak, accompanying six steep mountains and the vast highland area at the foot of mountains. Besides alpine plants, there are Abies mariesii and Tsuga diversifolia at the mountain area. Pinus densiflora and Rhododendron kaempferi are found at the foot of mountains with many spring waters.
