Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large limestone massif, south of the town of Metsovo. The site has an extensive area of alpine grassland, cliffs, scree and gorges. Part of the site is covered by fir Abies and beech Fagus forest. The main human activity is livestock-farming.



Key biodiversity
The site is important for species associated with alpine grassland, cliffs and scree.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from illegal hunting, particularly of raptors. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International None1,867 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Koutsouyo-Tzakouta-Mnimata/Katafigiou-Plakas-Anthousas, 1,867 ha). 1,550 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Kalouta-Nikoulitsa/Kalariton, 1,550 ha).
