Site location and context
A hilly coastal region dominated at higher altitudes by conifer forest. At lower altitudes there is a mosaic of maquis, small wetlands and olive-groves.
This is an important area for breeding and passage raptors and resident forest species.
Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Logging of the
Pinus nigra forest is a major threat, particularly to large raptors. Other threats include tourism developments along the coast, spreading urbanization, and hunting. A management plan has existed since 1996. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.
