Mount Idi, Crete


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A mountain dominated by heavily grazed phrygana and sclerophyllous scrub. The main human activities are livestock-farming, tourism and recreation and hunting.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for breeding and passage raptors.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threat is from overgrazing which is preventing scrub regeneration. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Low International Partial1,500 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Nida/Anogion, 1,500 ha). 1 ha of IBA covered by Natural Monument (Endangered Cretan Cephalantera, 1 ha). 7,876 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Krousonas-Vromonero Idis, 7,876 ha)
