Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A wooded mountain in Crete dominated by Pinus and Quercus. The woodland cover has been reduced by recent fires. Human activities include livestock-farming and tourism.



Key biodiversity
An important site for passage and breeding raptors and alpine species.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats are from fire and agricultural expansion. Part of the area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International PartialPart of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Chalasia/Zenion-Exo Potamon-Mesa Lasithiou, 1,100 ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Dasos Viannou-Amiron/Viannou-Amiron-Kefalovryso, 1,300 ha). 10,896 ha of IBA covered by Special Protection Area (Lazaros Koryfi Madara Diktis, 10,896 ha)
