Mount Dikaios, lake Psalidi and Alyki lagoon, Kos


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A mountain dominated by maquis and Pinus and Cupressus forest. The IBA also includes two coastal wetlands with reedbeds (Phragmites), a lagoon and saltmarsh.



Key biodiversity
This is an important site for breeding and passage raptors. Species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Branta ruficollis (passage), Larus audouinii.



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
The main threats include urban development and expansion, road construction, tourism development and hunting. The area is a candidate SAC.



Protected areas
National Partial International None1,901 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Ag. Fokas-Psalidi/Kos, 1,901 ha). Part of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Agginaropi-Galomandra-Pythos-Alyki-Vai/Pyliou-Asfe, 437 ha). 1,369 ha of IBA covered by Wildlife Refuge (Lagoudi-Konario/Asfendiou-Pyliou-Ko, 1,369 ha).
