Miedwie site


Site description (2000 baseline):

Site location and context
A large lake with a moderate level of nutrients, bordered to the south and west by extensive chalk fens and meadows, and to the east by adjoining alder Alnus forest. The P³onia river goes through the lake and flows into D¹bie lake. The lake is a drinking water reservoir for the city of Szczecin and also supports a fishery.



Key biodiversity
Up to 12,000-14,000 Anser fabalis and A. albifrons stage here in autumn, with up to 1,500 such birds in winter. Breeding species of global conservation concern that do not meet IBA criteria: Haliaeetus albicilla (one pair feeds in the area, nesting nearby), Crex crex (one pair), Acrocephalus paludicola (nine singing males).



Pressure/threats to key biodiversity
Pollution from agricultural sources affects drinking water and poses a threat to the site.
