Micang Shan Nature Reserve


Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in northern Nanjiang County, with the higher elevations in the northern part of the IBA. The best-preserved forest is found at 1,300-2,300 m. The vegetation shows vertical zonation, with broadleaf evergreen mixed forest at 1,300-1,600 m, mixed forest at 1,600-2,000 m, and subalpine coniferous forest at 2,000-2,300 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Panthera pardus, Neofelis nebulosa, Felis temmincki, Macaca mulatta, Viverra zibetha, Lutra lutra, Moschus berezovskii.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
Established as a provicial-level nature reserve in 1999, and upgraded to a national nature reserve in 2006.
