Site description (2009 baseline):

Site location and context
Located in the southern part of the Hengduan Shan mountains, with the Yunnan border to the south. The IBA has a canyon landscape, with arid montane deciduous scrub below 3,400 m, montane coniferous-broadleaf mixed forest at 3,400-3,800 m, coniferous forest at 3,800-4,600 m, and alpine scrub and grassland above 4,600 m.

Key biodiversity

Non-bird biodiversity: Nationally protected animals include Rhinopithecus bieti (around 700 individuals found within the reserve, 70% of the world population), Selenarctos thibetanus, Ursus arctos, Ailurus fulgens, Capricornis sumatraensis and Naemorhedus cranbrooki.



Conservation responses/actions for key biodiversity
The IBA includes the provincial-level Yanjing Nature Reserve, which was established to protect Rhinopithecus bieti and its habitat.
